Michigan Law Firm Overview and History

Seward, Tally and Piggott began in the Davison Building on February 26, 1971 with Peter G. Seward, B.J. Tally, Jr. and Scott J. Newcombe.  In 1974, the building where the office is currently located, was previously the Mitchell Cadillac building.  This building was purchased by the firm, remodeled and opened on March 28, 1974.  John C. Leaming was added as a partner and the firm became Seward, Tally, Newcombe and Leaming.

On March 3, 1977, John W. Piggott joined the firm bringing with him a large number of local corporate businesses and municipalities.  In 1977, John Leaming became Bay County District Court Judge and therefore on October 19, 1977 the firm name changed to Seward, Tally, Newcombe and Piggott.

In 1979, Scott J. Newcombe became Bay County District Court Judge and the firm changed its name to Seward, Tally and Piggott on May 16, 1979.  Barbara F. Livingston, who worked at the firm as a Legal Assistant for many years, went to Law School, became an attorney and practiced mostly in Family and Criminal law up until her untimely death in 1999.  The firm name as been the same since that time.  Peter G. Seward retired in the year 2000 and B. J. Tally retired two years later.  John W. Piggott passed away in 2008 at age 81 after practicing law for over 50 years.

John Morosi joined the firm in 1984 and Lew Seward joined shortly after admittance to the State Bar Association in 1988.  Ruth Noble joined the firm in 1999 following a judicial clerkship with William J. Caprathe in the 18th Circuit Court of Bay City.

Today, attorneys Mr. Morosi, Mr. Seward and Ms. Noble are the managing partners of Seward, Tally and Piggott, P.C.
